JOCKEY QUOTES
VICTOR ESPINOZA, ENGLAND’S ROSE, WINNER: “I was hoping we had enough pace. You never know before the race. My only thought was that hopefully they would go a little quick. I knew there were still one or two who had a little speed there. I can’t really change how she likes to run, so it’s one of those things you just have to let the horse do all the work and let her run in the end.
“The way she runs I think either distance she’s good. The main thing for her is to relax and not get too aggressive at first then, she will run the best race ever. When she gets a little on the bridle and gets a little rank, it’s a bad sign for me because she will normally not finish as well as when she gets into a nice, slow rhythm. She is really strong in the end.
“It’s just fun to ride for West Point Thoroughbreds.”
TRAINER QUOTES
JOHN SHIRREFFS, ENGLAND’S ROSE, WINNER: “Victor did a good job, taking ahold of her and dropping back to save ground early. She’s got a great finishing kick, so he waited as long as he could, but when those fillies came up inside her around the far turn he had to go. Now we’ll try to move up (in class). You always like to see them repeat a performance.”
NOTES: The winning owners are Mercedes Stables LLC, West Point Thoroughbreds, Scott Dilworth, Dorothy and David Ingordo and Steve F. Mooney.
