I knew he was going to be ready for this race and he showed up today. I watched the replays and it looked like he ran like that all the time, so I didn’t change anything. He broke sharp and stayed behind the speed, then I went around and he passed the other two horses in front of me.”

            ABEL CEDILLO, FASHIONABLY FAST, SECOND: “He was working well. I tried something different with him today and let him rush a little bit. He ran really well.

“He’s not the kind of horse to sit tight and then make a run, he’s more of a steady horse. I was happy with how he ran today, he tried really hard.”

STEVEN MIYADI, DESMOND DOSS, WINNER: “I decided to give this horse some time off after he was rank at Los Alamitos and he broke bad at Santa Anita.  He just lost his spark.  I didn’t plan to take this long off (since last October).  I was hoping to run him in the Crystal Water, but he was ready for this race.  This opens up another avenue for him with Cal-breds for sprinting.”

            NICK ALEXANDER, DESMOND DOSS, WINNER: “He ran an uncharacteristically dull race in October, so we gave him plenty of time. He never left the barn and Steve had him the whole time. I think he really wanted to go in the Crystal Water, but he didn’t have enough time.

“His dam is twenty years old. Every foal she has had has been a winner, she’s just one of those mares. I bred the mom and then had the family for about four generations. She’s back in foal at twenty years old to Grazen.”
