Unbridled Mary Rallies To Take $69,000 Santa Anita Allowance Feature By A Head

UNBRIDLED MARY RALLIES TO TAKE $69,000 SANTA ANITA ALLOWANCE FEATURE BY A HEAD AS BRAVO & SADLER TEAM FOR HILLSIDE TURF WIN IN 1:13.71

ARCADIA, Calif. (Feb. 25, 2022)–Idle since breaking her maiden at first asking on Nov. 12, the John Sadler-trained Unbridled Mary was reserved off the early pace and rallied resolutely through the lane to tag Irish import Delmona by head in Friday’s $69,000 Santa Anita allowance feature.  Ridden by Joe Bravo, Unbridled Mary, a 3-year-old filly by Maclean’s Music, got about 6 ½ furlongs down the hillside turf course in 1:13.71.

A joint fifth, about three lengths off the lead approaching the dirt crossing at the top of the lane, Unbridled Mary found plenty of room between horses while three-deep and unleashed an impressive turn of foot when Bravo asked her for her best.

“This little filly is exciting,” said Bravo, who rode Unbridled Mary to victory at Del Mar in her five furlong turf debut.  “She’s unbeaten in two starts now and the thing that makes her so nice, is that she was so relaxed behind horses.  She was breathing comfortably and when she saw daylight, she just did it.”

A nose victor first time out, she was off as the 5-2 favorite in a field of seven sophomore fillies and paid $7.40, $5.00 and  $3.60.

Owned by Pearl Racing, West Point Thoroughbreds and Mark Pine, Unbridled Mary, who is out of the Tale of the Cat mare Bauble, picked up $41,400 for the win, increasing her earnings to $83,400.

Trained by Jeff Mullins and ridden by Umberto Rispoli, Delmona, who had been idle since Sept. 12 in her native Ireland, was about a neck off pacesetter Shoppingforpharoah at the dirt crossing, opened up by about two lengths inside the sixteenth pole, but couldn’t hold the winner off on the money.

Off at 3-1, she paid $4.40 and $3.40 while finishing 1 ½ lengths in front of Shoppingforpharoah.

Ridden by Ricky Gonzalez, Shoppingforpharoah was dispatched at 7-1 and paid $4.40 to show.

Fractions on the race were 22.30, 44.66 and 1:07.48.

Racing resumes on Saturday with first post time for a nine-race card at 12:30 p.m.
