ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 23, 2014)–Heavily favored Miss Well Molded was a prompt three quarter length winner of Thursday’s $58,000 Mars Purse allowance, getting one mile on turf under Rafael Bejarano in 1:34.47.

Dispatched at 6-5 in a field of eight older fillies and mares bred in California, the 5-year-old mare by Unusual Heat was sent from the gate by Rafael Bejarano and sat a length behind Mangita and Aaron Gryder around the Club House turn and past the half mile pole, drew even around the far turn and repelled a stubborn bid from the pacesetter through the stretch run to prevail.

Trained by Doug O’Neill and owned by Neil Haymes, Dave Kenney, Westside Rentals and O’Neill, Miss Well Molded paid $4.60, $3.00 and $2.40.

Claimed out of a $32,000 claiming win three starts back, Miss Well Molded was a handy Cal-bred allowance winner next out and was well beaten in a second condition allowance in her most recent start, Dec. 12 at Hollywood Park.

“Her last race, I think was just too tough,” said O’Neill. “We tried her at a second condition allowance, in open company, and I think the water was a little too deep. I think the drop back in here to Cal-breds did what we hoped it would and ‘Raffie’ gave her a great ride as well.

Entered today for an optional claiming tag of $25,000, Miss Well Molded, who is out of the Bertrando mare Miss Thirtyfour D, was claimed in an eight-way shake by trainer Peter Miller and picked up $34,800 for the win, increasing her earnings to $215,206. She now has five wins from 17 starts.

The second choice at 3-1, Mangita set fractions of 23.56, 46.86, 1:10.11 and 1:22.05 and was extra game right to the wire, finishing a half length in front of late running Tanquerray and Corey Nakatani.

Mangita paid $3.80 and $3.00.

Off as the 5-1 third choice, Tanquerray paid $3.00 to show.
