JOCKEY QUOTES
JOE TALAMO, WEEWINNIN, WINNER: “I had a perfect trip. I was able to sit right behind a couple of horses and I was hoping if Summer Hit got tired he would move off the rail a bit and it worked out. When he got tired at the quarter pole he moved off the rail about a length. I was able to shoot right through there. My horse just kept opening up and he ran a great race.”
VICTOR ESPINOZA, STONEY FLEECE, SECOND: “It was a nice trip. I got clear but he kind of stopped running in the stretch. He was a bit lazy on the backside and I had to get after him. He really took off turning for home. I wish I could have been a little closer (early on) but he just didn’t want to do much in the beginning (of the race); it was just one of those days.”
TRAINER QUOTES
BRIAN KORINER, WEEWINNIN, WINNER: “It looked like all day people haven’t been coming from very far off the pace and we just stayed close. But leaving the gates, Joe (Talamo) could have made a decision to let him run outside but he tucked him in and he relaxed after that and it was a great trip from there on in.
(On the game plan): “It was to be within four (lengths), but they get too rank; the jockey might play the audible and say, ‘You know what? I gotta let him do his stuff and drop his head.’ But it took a half a mile for him to drop his head and relax.”
JEREMY PESKOFF, PART OWNER, WEEWINNIN, WINNER: “This horse has had his issues and Brian has been very patient with him; we’re very fortunate. I had him at the windows today!
“I thought we probably had it (when I saw him go through at the rail); it was a legitimate time.”
