BERKELEY, Calif. (Jan. 23, 2018)–Quick with a smile and a salutary acknowledgement, Irish-born David Duggan has comfortably settled into his new position as Golden Gate Fields General Manager and Vice President. Recently-arrived in October, Duggan is currently overseeing his first Golden Gate Winter/Spring Meet, which began on Dec. 26.
A native of Dublin, Duggan has an extensive international resume that includes a seven-year run with AtTheRaces, one of the leading horserace broadcast companies in England and a three-year hitch with the Hong Kong Jockey Club, where he worked with their customer and marketing division in efforts to enhance the racing experience and encourage new racegoers to become regular or more frequent participants.
“We’re very fortunate to have David on board at Golden Gate,” said Tim Ritvo, Chief Operating Officer of The Stronach Group (TSG). “In addition to a great resume, David brings a level of enthusiasm and energy that is contagious. We’re excited for the future at Golden Gate Fields and we’re happy to have David in charge.”
For his part, Duggan was quick to acknowledge Golden Gate’s role as a “major player” in the Bay Area.
“Golden Gate Fields is an incredible facility in an incredible area with a rich tradition of not only horseracing, but elite, major league franchises, like the Golden State Warriors, the San Francisco Giants, 49ers and, going back quite a few years, the Oakland Raiders,” said Duggan. “Accordingly, expectations are high in this market and that’s a challenge we welcome.
“I’m very pleased and excited to be working alongside a great team here at Golden Gate, all of whom are committed to making the racing and entertainment experience better and I’m very much looking forward to working with TSG, a company with a solid record of success and innovation in the racing industry.”
Golden Gate Fields is currently in the midst of their 94-day Winter/Spring Meet, which will run through June 10. With the exception of holiday Mondays, Golden Gate runs on a Thursday through Sunday schedule, with first post time on weekdays at 12:15 p.m. and on weekends at 12:45 p.m.
