Santa Anita To Host Poker Tournament On Saturday, Oct. 23 To Benefit ‘Folds Of Honor’ Foundation

SANTA ANITA TO HOST POKER TOURNAMENT ON SATURDAY, OCT. 23 TO BENEFIT ‘FOLDS OF HONOR’ FOUNDATION WHICH SUPPORTS FAMILIES OF FALLEN OR DISABLED MILITARY VETERANS

‘FOLDS OF HONOR’ HAS AWARDED MORE THAN 35,000 EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS NATIONWIDE

ARCADIA, Calif. (Sept. 8, 2021)–Santa Anita Park has announced that it will host a charity Poker Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 23 to benefit the “Folds of Honor” Foundation, which has awarded more than 35,000 educational scholarships to the families of fallen or disabled veterans and which helps to bridge the financial gap often facing more than one million dependents adversely affected by war.

“Post time” for the Santa Anita Poker Tournament will be at 5 p.m., immediately following the races on Oct. 23.  Players will make a $300 charitable donation, which will feature a full night of No-Limit Texas Hold ‘Em and will include track admission and a day at the races in Santa Anita’s Stretch Run Suites.

The Folds of Honor Foundation will be represented by a true national hero, retired United States Marine Corps Sergeant and P.O.W., Rocky Sickmann.  Assigned to the U.S. embassy in Tehran, Sickmann was one of 65 Americans taken hostage by Iranian extremists on Nov. 4, 1979.  Held captive for 444 days, Sickmann and his fellow Americans were released on the first day of Ronald Reagan’s presidency on Jan. 20, 1981.

“Folds of Honor is grateful to Santa Anita Park for helping to provide academic scholarships to the spouses and children of fallen or disabled service members,” said Sickmann, who serves as Senior VP of Bud Accounts for Folds of Honor.  “Santa Anita has committed to assisting those individuals that deserve and need our help.

“The folded flag is a constant reminder to those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.  It inspires us to help equip and educate their loved ones in need of our support.  Thank you to Santa Anita Park for embracing the call by honoring their sacrifice.”
